Is currently the president of hockey operations for the Edmonton Oilers … Spent eight seasons (2000-08) as Edmonton’s general manager … Spent one season (1999-2000) as Edmonton’s head coach, compiling a 32-34-16-8 record and qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs … Spent one season (1998-99) as an assistant coach with the Oilers … Played 19 NHL seasons for the Edmonton Oilers (1979-92, 1996-98) and New York Rangers (1992-96) … Won six Stanley Cups – five with Edmonton (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990) and one with New York (1994) … Recorded 432 points (84G, 348A) in 1,254 games … Is one of only 27 players to play 1,000 games with one team (1,037 with Edmonton) … Was the first draft pick in Oilers history (21st overall, 1979 NHL Entry Draft) … Scored the first NHL goal in Oilers history on October 10, 1979 vs. Chicago … Holds franchise records for regular-season games played (1,037) and playoff games played (172) … Played in seven NHL All-Star Games (1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993) … Served as Edmonton’s captain in 1991-92 … Won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, for leadership qualities on and off the ice and making a significant contribution to the community, in 1990 … Played three seasons of junior hockey with the QMJHL’s Quebec Remparts (1976-79) … Was named the first English-speaking captain of a QMJHL team in 1978-79
